In October 1969, amid widespread debate concerning women's roles in agriculture and society, the forty-second FFA convention admitted the first female member into Future Farmers of America. By allowing women to join, lead, and become an integral part of the organization, this progressive action not only forged new frontiers for gender equity in agriculture, it also helped open the door to greater opportunity, success, and influence in greater society.
